What is it actually like to work with a travel advisor?
There’s a moment that happens for a lot of people when they start thinking about a trip. It starts off super exciting - you imagine where you could go…what it might feel like…how nice it would be to have something on the calendar. You can almost feel the wind in your face or the sun on your skin.
And then…
You open a few tabs.
Start looking at options.
Realize how many decisions there are to make.
And suddenly, it’s not exciting anymore. It feels like work. And it’s usually this point where people either give up entirely or go back and book the same place they always go. (There’s nothing wrong with a visit to a place you’re comfortable, but you KNOW it’s not what you really want).
This is where a travel advisor can completely change the game for you.
It’s not about handing your trip off to someone else
You might assume working with a travel advisor means: Giving up control, being told where to go, or getting a generic itinerary full of tourist traps and things everyone does.
That’s not how I work or what I do. Whether you know where you want to go or not, it’s a completely collaborative process. We will dive into the dreams, the circumstances, and the logistics to create an itinerary that speaks to your soul and fits into your life (and budget) right now. All without you needing to carry the mental load of figuring everything out on your own.
And - if you are planning with another person or a group - an advisor can be especially helpful in managing everyone’s needs, wants, and wishes without you having to be constantly in the middle.
It starts with clarity (not bookings)
Before anything is even close to getting booked, we will spend time getting clear on what you actually want. That’s not just where you want to go, it’s also:
How do you want the trip to feel?
What kind of pace do you enjoy?
What types of experiences matter to you most?
What is your budget, and what are your priorities within that budget?
Because two people can go to the same place…and have completely different trips.
This is where most people get stuck on their own —
because they’re trying to choose a destination before they understand what they actually want and need.
You don’t get endless options — you get the right ones
One of the biggest misconceptions is that more options = better planning. In reality? More options usually = overwhelm.
So, once I understand your “must haves,” “nice to haves” and trip dealbreakers, I get to work on finding you options. I will organize your options into a few suggested full itineraries, including estimated costs, for you to review. And then we’ll get on a call to discuss the pros and cons of each one. Oftentimes, I’ll have the one that I think makes the most sense for you already in my head - but I like for my clients to review all of the options and give feedback and reactions before I share my thoughts. It’s always a two-way street.
Instead of reviewing dozens of possibilities, I curate a small number of options that actually make sense for you.
The details are handled — without you having to chase them
Once we zero in on a location, we start to build out the details. Flights, accommodations, logistics, timing…
These are the pieces that can turn travel planning into something stressful. But when you work with a travel advisor, you’re not managing all of that on your own.
I handle:
Coordinating the moving parts
Making sure everything aligns and your schedule is manageable
Catching things you might not think to look for
Making sure you know everything you need (passports, temporary visas, specific clothing, etc.)
Getting quotes and recommendations for travel insurance
Packaging it all into an easy-to-understand itinerary that you take with you to make sure you have everything you need during your trip.
Throughout the entire process, my goal is that you’re never wondering:
“Did I miss something?”
“Is this actually a good option?”
“Am I doing this right?”
It makes the entire experience feel different — before you even leave
One of the biggest shifts people notice isn’t just the trip itself. It’s how the process feels leading up to it. Instead of approaching the trip with stress, decision fatigue, putting off things you need to do, feeling overwhelmed as you try to pack and collect any necessary documentation….
You’ll experience: Clarity, momentum, excitement. You actually get to look forward to your trip — instead of feeling drained by planning it. When you plan a trip, the stress of making sure everything goes right starts during booking and can actually lead to you not being fully present while you’re traveling because you’re feeling the pressure of making sure it all goes right. It’s not fun when you’re always worried about what’s next.
When you book with an advisor, it feels luxurious. Someone has done all the work for you - and all you need to do is show up. Of course, sometimes things happen - timing is off, there are delays, etc. But, isn’t it also luxurious to have someone you can call to help advocate for you and manage it while you focus on staying present and enjoying your trip?
“Is it worth it?”
This is a question people often have — even if they don’t say it out loud. And the honest answer is: It depends on what you value.
If you enjoy spending hours researching, comparing, and organizing every detail…you may prefer to plan on your own. (And I get it - this was me! It’s why I became a travel advisor to begin with!).
But if you:
Don’t have the time to do the kind of research you want
Feel overwhelmed by options
Don’t know where to start
Want guidance you can trust
Want the process to feel easier and luxurious
Then working with a travel advisor isn’t “an extra,” it’s what makes the experience truly enjoyable.
If you’re not sure where to start…
That’s completely normal.
In fact, that’s exactly why I created the Dream to Departure Consultation.
It’s a guide, and a 60-minute session where we:
Clarify what you want
Explore destinations that fit you
Create a clear direction forward
So instead of staying stuck in the “I want to travel…” phase, you actually move into the “I’m doing this!” phase.
And if you already know where you want to go…
…but you want someone else to manage the details, I can help you bring it to life! Start by filling out an intake form, and I’ll be in touch ASAP (within one business day) to set up a time for us to chat out loud and get started!
